A Love Story - “The Island of Light”
Long ago, in a quiet village nestled between mountain and mist, there lived two lovers who met only at dawn.
He was a fisherman, bound to the tides. She was a painter, bound to the light. Their love unfolded in borrowed hours, moments stolen between his returning and her leaving.
One winter, a storm swallowed his boat before he reached the shore. The villagers said he was gone, but she refused to believe it. Each morning she walked to the lake and waited, her hair silvering like frost, until her eyes became the same color as the mist.
When she died, they buried her by the water’s edge. But in spring, a sapling rose from her grave, pale and trembling, as if searching for something. And one dawn, after a long stillness, the lake shimmered. Another sapling appeared beside her, its roots tangled with hers beneath the shallow earth.
Years passed. The villagers forgot their names. But the trees kept blooming, soft gold at first light, their branches leaning toward each other like unfinished prayers. On calm mornings, their reflections meet perfectly on the water, as if the lake itself remembers the faces that once waited there.
And sometimes, when the mist drifts low and the air smells like rain, you can almost hear her voice whispering across the water:
“You came back, my love. Even the wind kept your name.”
