The Saga of Katsíka, the Moon-Eating Goat
Long ago in Arcadia, Pan the wild god created a strange creature during a drunken song: a divine goat named Katsíka. She was cursed—or blessed—to crave only one thing:
the Moon.
Each month, when the moon is full, Katsíka takes her first bite.
Not all at once—she’s patient.
Night by night, she nibbles away, slowly devouring the glowing disc.
The sky grows darker, and people whisper:
"Katsíka is eating the moon."
When it’s gone, she lies in the shadows and begins the second part of her divine duty:
She poops it back out.
Bit by bit, silver returns to the sky.
First a sliver, then a crescent, then half,
until the moon is whole again—round, radiant, and reborn.
Artemis once raged at this filthy cycle,
but even she came to accept it.
For so it goes:
Katsíka eats, Katsíka excretes—
and the heavens keep their rhythm.
