A girl with a speech impediment has tears streaming down her face, because her classmates mock her.
Mouth zipped so not to utter a word that may not be pronounced correctly resulting in being ridiculed by classmate
Often a speech impediment is cause by poor hearing from a very young age. Poor hearing not only affects speech development but often affects verbal learning skills and often teachers say the child is not paying attention.
I failed a hearing test given by the schools with I was 12 or 13 years old. Finally I got sent to a specialist to examine my ears. They were very clogged up & no one ever thought to have them check despite being in speech therapy throughout K-grade 6. I had the nickname 'Frenchie'
Affected my ability to learn by listening as well as social skills. I could not and still do not hear conversations in a loud room/party situation. I am a visual learner and by doing. Forget lectures they go in one ear and out the other!
