In 1900, Gustav Mahler organized the construction of this composing house. Here he finished his 4th symphony and partly composed the 5th, 6th and 7th and the 8th. The Kindertotenlieder were also written here.
Mahler: "This time it is also the forest with its wonders and its dread that defines me and weaves it into my world of sound. I see more and more: one does not compose, one is composed."
