The Fictional "Ghost Beach" appears once again, this time as a distant memory.
I actually shot this on the shores of Camp Pendleton Marine Base, south of Orange County, California. Officially closed to the public, but only sporadically patrolled, it's a beautiful, rare untamed stretch of beach, with more than just a bit of foreboding uneasiness there. From the spot this pic was taken it's still a long hike back to the parking lot along deserted beach and then up a trail that climbs the bluffs, this time under cover of night. From here, you won't get back for another hour, and when I took this pic, it was well past the Blue Hour and into darkness. San Onofre State Park had long closed, the Rangers scooting the last of us out.
