More about A 'White Lady' singing of unrequited love.

'Spirit' by George Roux, 1885, styled with 'The Grand Canal in Venice with Santa Maria della Salute' c. 1842 by Ippolito Caffi (1809-1866). The White Lady, or Woman in White, is a female ghost usually associated with a local legend of tragedy. White Lady legends are found in many countries around the world. Common to many of these legends is an accidental death, murder, or suicide, and the theme of loss, betrayal by a husband or fiancée, and unrequited love. The 1859 novel 'Woman in White' was Wilkie Collins's fifth published novel. It is a mystery and falls under the genre of "sensation novels." The story is an early example of detective fiction with protagonist Walter Hartright employing many of the sleuthing techniques of later private detectives. [info from Wikipedia]
