Sam Cooke was on my mind today. So was Randy Newman, The Firesign Theatre, The Band and Harry Nilsson. Not sure why or what the thematic connective tissue is here, but I kept rooting around and The Flatlanders, The Byrds, Steve Forbert, Terry Allen, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Todd Snider, The Rolling Stones, Michael Johnson, Jefferson Airplane, Terry Allen and ole standby fave Eddie Hinton fell into place. I unearthed a cool demo by my longtime friend and songwriting buddy, Mark Marchetti and it plopped into the playlist like “what took you so long?!?!?”

One theme became clear; I was in a heavy late-1960s mood, a time of great social and creative change. So I wrapped things up with a peyote-inspired Native American love letter from Everything Is Everything.
