So many can't -- or refuse to -- see the forest for the trees. The big picture beyond their immediate desires, their personal convictions, this one moment in time.

It feels like this myopia grows worse with each year I grow older. That we as a people lose sight of not just the forest, but the individual trees within it. That our attention is held by a handful of leaves, neatly categorized, labeled, and ranked in arbitrary tiers of importance.

Be the tree. See past the leaves to the tree. You will find that people are more beautiful as a whole than as a handful of labels you or society has decided are important in the passing moment.
