The train arrives on time, immaculate and indifferent, as it always does. To the station authority, the manifest is routine: workers, technicians, settlers, a few diplomats—nothing that disturbs the surface of order. But not everyone who steps onto the platform is traveling for the reason they claim, and not every destination is the one printed on their ticket.
Some come bearing instructions they cannot acknowledge. Some carry debts that will be collected far from any ledger. A few are here because a promise was made on another world, under another sky. The station only cares that the doors open and close on schedule. What the passengers are truly transporting moves quietly, in the space between arrival and intent.
