A meeting organised by Ettore Sottsass in 1981 resulted in the creation of the Memphis group, and the start of the Memphis movement, which ended 1988. The group designed many products including furniture, fabrics, patterns, lighting, and textiles, that had stylistic features such as bold, clashing, and bright colours, geometric forms and a variety of traits from other movements like art deco, pop art and 1950s Kitsch. The members of the original Memphis group, and the founders of the movement, include designers such as Michele de Lucchi, Marco Zanini, and Peter Shire, as well as the¬ founder Ettore Sottsass. They used a variety of materials and media to create furniture, fabrics, ceramics, metalwork, and glass work.
