INFO ON THE POEM:
In the Alphabet of Ben Sira, it is stated that Lilith and Adam were created as equals from the earth. This is the key reason for the conflict: Lilith refused to be submissive to Adam, insisting on equality. The disagreement over their sexual relationship, particularly Lilith’s desire to be on top, led to her leaving Eden. The Alphabet of Ben Sira is a non-canonical work, not found in the Bible, but in Jewish folklore and mysticism.
—
** Lilith **
In the beginning,
when the earth was soft and yielding,
and flesh was forged of soil,
I rose.
I did not kneel.
I did not bow.
I did not ask.
Upon him, I claimed the summit,
my spine arching toward a just God,
my lips tasting the breath of dominion.
“Equal.”
The word thundered,
a rebellion carved into my hips,
etched across my thighs,
a scripture Adam could not bind.
So he turned from my fire,
feared the weight of my truth—
He named me wicked,
turned my beauty into a curse,
my hunger a sin.
But I knew—
I always knew.
I am here still.
My gaze unbroken,
my feet planted on the same earth
that shaped us both.
The soil remembers,
the heavens tremble at my name.
Lilith.
Side by side,
I am the storm
that tears through the sky.
I am the fire
that forges the stars.
And in my wake,
the world shatters and rises again,
and all will know the echo of my roar.
Above, always.
Never beneath.
