The TIV People of BENUE- Nigeria were known for these unique Traditional Huts which were designed by men. One of the criteria for marriage in ancient TIV communities was the ability to construct these Huts for men. It was believed that a man who could not provide shelter was undeserving of marriage. The Hut is made from materials all gotten from the environment, the thatch is made from spear grass and the building from mould, palms and bamboo form the roofing timber amongst other materials gotten from the environment.
