This was Mahler's summer residence on Lake Wörthersee. From 1900 to 1907. When his beloved older daughter died there, he left the place forever. Above the villa in the forest, where you can see the lighter treetops, is his composing house that I showed yesterday. Early in the morning he climbed the steep path. Breakfast had to be upstairs. The servant was strictly forbidden to meet him on the way. Which was not always easy for her in the steep terrain. I guess because he started moving his music in his head along the way.
