Once, the river flowed endlessly. Then it stopped — not gradually, but all at once. What remained was the Serpent. Some say it was always there, hidden beneath the current, drinking from the flow. Others believe it became the river after consuming it. Now it lies exposed, an immense skeletal form stretching across the land. Yet something still moves within it. At night, faint sounds of water can be heard, though the riverbed is dry. Those who walk along its length sometimes see reflections in the air — rippling images where no water exists. If one steps inside the hollow of its ribs, they may feel a current pulling them forward, as if the river still flows in another layer of reality. Many who follow this unseen current are never seen again. It is said the Serpent continues to drink — not water, but the idea of it.
