COGNITIVE DISSONANCE... I'm not an expert on such topics, but I think it's a matter of cognitive dissonance. There's a lot of horror here, but it's not presented as horror. There's no evil here. Look at the dissonance: the childlike innocence and the symbols of evil and death, but they're woven into the ornamentation as elements of existence. Moreover, the childlike face also expresses non-childlike wisdom. Cover the nose line with your palm, and you'll see the face of an adult goddess. This is what lies beneath the surface. I wouldn't try to put an owl on a globe by taking apart a girl's bangles and beads. But the white lion - In Buddhist tradition, the white lion is a symbol of fearlessness in the transmission of the Dharma teachings. Its presence next to the "frightening" figure shows that true strength lies in accepting all aspects of reality.
