As a songwriter and interpreter of other’s songs, Harry Nilsson knew what a great melody was and he was blessed with the vocal chops to give a song life. Thanks to The Beatles, George Martin produced and orchestrated some of the finest melodically-rich music of the last 75 years. For this week’s edition of Air-Conditioned, we will hear Nilsson meditate on the number one and George Martin will treat us to the pure orchestral magic he created for one of Abbey Road’s greatest songs. You won’t want to miss this. But if that isn’t enough, Elton John, Colin Blunstone, Paul McCartney, Stories, Andy Pratt, and Elvis Costello & The Attractions offer some of their own gems. Also on board are Audience, Electric Light Orchestra, 10cc, early Steve Miller Band (featuring the great Nicky Hopkins on piano) and The Zombies, who deliver a gorgeous live performance of one of their songs from the classic Odyssey and Oracle.
