So, the World Tree and the Tree of Life concepts crop up a lot throughout Norse and Celtic mythology, but I just realised I'd never seen a literalised visualisation- i.e. an actual tree growing planets like fruit. So I made one, because it sounded awesome. Fun fact: y'all would not believe the length of time the original digital collage took me, mainly because I had to search for a decent variety of planetary photographs, then edit them enough to appear as parallel worlds (as well as the ones we're familiar with). Finding a decent bloody tree PNG was uphill work as well. I've noticed before that DDG doesn't play nicely with anything that has actual foliage, so I had to find a bare tree with the right proportions. Having created the World Tree itself, it was just a question of finding a suitable 'space' pic to serve as the background and add the knotwork in the corners, just as a subtle little reminder whose mythology we're dealing with here. I then filtered it through one style of my own creation and another that I just found on this site to give it the appropriate lustre and bingo! This image was born. It might end up being a background in the game I'm working on (yes, that's still ongoing).
