The script for "The Mysterians" originally did not include a giant monster. But the producer, Tomoyuki Tanaka told screenwriter Takeshi Kimura to add one, since giant monsters were attracting good box office for Toho at the time. So here is Mogera, the mole robot who pops up and terrorizes a village, then leaves the movie except for the big climax where he pokes his head out and is immediately crushed under a collapsing Markolite FARP.
