A question:
Traces of lost culture are mainly reconstructed by analyzing fossils and preserved artifacts. Virus fossils would hardly be discovered.
Could it be that it has already carried off some high-ranking cultures in a very similar way?
It is known that the Mayas, the Aztecs, the Incas, etc. were not only carried away by the usual gold-hungry slaughter but also by Pizarro's flu viruses.
In addition to fire water and lead, Indian tribes also suffered considerably from the viral load of the invading Europeans.
Is it conceivable that something like this could continue? What if one epidemic didn't come along in fine order after the other like on a string of pearls, but rather many, completely different variants of humanity attacked the collar?
