The Bloodlines Carved Upon The Sea-Cliffs At Bhan-Garrah Bay (Fantasy-Fiction Locale)

These cliff carvings are a precursor to the pictographic writing system (see "The Graffiti Straits" at https://deepdreamgenerator.com/ddream/ri2ihvb06g1 ), being used only to record the lineages of the powerful families who ruled the locals ; the founders of each bloodline were allegedly god-like or at least supernatural non-humans, sort of like the Watchers in The Book of Enoch.

As the material culture of the time evolved, carvings were at first thought to be superior to paint, for being more durable - but you can't communicate a series of current events over time with carvings, since that requires removing old writing and putting new writing in its place. In any case, carving solid rock facings is extremely difficult, both for the strength required and the knowledge of stone necessary for successful carving. In contrast, paint goes on with a soft brush and comes off with a harder brush, but the latter can be done by a healthy pubescent child, leaving the painters to collect news, compose reports, mark the space, and then paint the news onto the scrubbed rock.
