Prompt

Watercolor and Ink masterpiece, heavily washed effect, swirls and twirls of lines and color around the edges, faded edges, an attractive fit petite young auburn haired Scottish American woman, narrow facial features, long slightly curly hair up in a fancy updo, she is sitting at a chair facing a vanity, a little black dress in laid on the bed next to her, the chair blocks her lower back, her back is bare, she is reaching up and is letting her hair down from the updo with some long strands already falling down, most details faded away, colors and surroundings are darker like the atmosphere of a room at the end of the night, dreamy, delicate blending, ethereal, emotional depth, watercolor medium, contrasting shadows, soft textures, evocative atmosphere. Painting by an artist named “Kiera” signed in the bottom right in small, swooping cursive black letters.

*Re publishing this after the original was taken down due to nudity*

This is poem I wrote in a Poe-inspired style (a bit softer) that explores the quiet moment when the composed self we carry through the day begins to fall away, and we are left simply as we are—shedding the day, its expectations, and returning to our private self.

Letting Down

While the midnight lamps were burning, softly burning, dimly yearning,
And the mirror caught their embers in a circle pale and bright,
She unbound the pins that kept her, one by one the daylight left her,
Till her loosened hair had swept her like a veil against the night;
And the silken black lay waiting where she cast it from her sight—
While the room grew still around her, and the shadows held her light.

There she lingered, neither dreaming nor from waking wholly parted,
With her lifted arms suspended in the hush of amber air;
And it seemed the night had entered, tender, secret, heavy-hearted,
Just to watch the slow surrender of each fastening in her hair—
Till the woman kept for daylight faded softly from the chair,
And the truer self beneath her was the only presence there.
