Pedro Linares was a mexican artistc (born 29/06/1906 - died on 25/01/1992).
He began as an expert in making cardboard judas and other figures for Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo.
He created the so-called alebrijes after falling ill at 30 years of age. While lying unconscious in bed, Linares dreamed of a strange forest-like place. Suddenly the rocks, the clouds and the animals became something strange, a species of animals, but unknown animals. He saw a donkey with wings, a rooster with bull horns, a lion with a dog's head and they were all shouting a single word, the word was "Alebrijes".
Today we celebrate the day of his birth.
