I’ve been in the mood to whip up a mix of taut late ‘70s and ’80s rock and, with a few exceptions, that’s what my April 1st episode (#35) of Air-Conditioned delivers. My ingredients for this confection include The Jam, Squeeze, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, The Clash, The English Beat, The Tourists, Joe Jackson and The Records. I add a generous dollop of R.E.M., The Police, Bill Lloyd, Guadalcanal Diary, The Rave-ups and Continental Drifters. Thanks to my buddy John Baldwin (John Baldwin Mastering) taking the time to transfer some rather rare goodies, I was able to top this delicious mess with Phil Judd’s New Zealand trio The Swingers and a great hard-to-find version of Comsat Angels “Independence Day.” Fun! Fun!! Fun!!!
